Does mobil 1 make 5-20wt oil? I know they have 5-30wt, but haven't seen the 5-20. The owners manual states to use a synth blend, but I guess straight synthetic is just better, right?

Yes, Mobil 1 does come in 5w20. I would stay away from the synthetic blends. From what I know they are not regulated as to the amount of synthetic versus dino oil mix. A synthetic blend could only have a drop of synthetic in it to be considered a blend.

Where in the desert are you moving too? I live in Las Vegas, drive an 02 4.2 V-6. Castrol GTX 5W20 works just fine. No useage between oil changes, 5000 miles. 168K on engine.

Better, yes, but also much more expensive. I recently switched from Castrol GTX to Motorcraft and Im pretty happy with it. For being a synthetic blend, Motorcraft isnt all that expensive (its cheaper than GTX actually) and I can tell that it has improved my fuel economy.

that is absolutely correct.. 2 tablespoons of synthetic to a dino quart makes a blend...

Hey guys. I haven't had my F150 that long so I am kinda new to everything. I was thinking of switch over to synthetic oil on the next change. How often do you change the oil when using synthetic? 5000, 7500 or 10000 miles? and is there a preferred tool to change the oil filter?

Even with synthetic I would/do change the oil every 5000 miles. Why just for the sense of security I guess. Plus the price differnce is so small. The difference between changing every 5k or 7k is about one oil change per year. I wouldn't freak out if you go over either. Just stick to around the 5k mark.
Oil filter hand tighten. Enough said.
