Default Belt problem i think

My 1997 f150 has a screeching noise coming from what seems to be the main belt it doesnt make any noise when idling or cruising only when accelerating. Also if I try to speed up to quickly it feels like the belt is slipping the rpm's go way up but the power isnt getting to the wheels. Any ideas of what the problem could be? Thanks in advance for your help.

Automatics don't usually make a lot of noise when they fail they just stop working right if your automatic is slipping automatic you will need to have this work done by a experienced rebuilder. If you know a good rebuilder have that person do it. I DO NOT LIKE THE CHAIN REBUILDING SHOPS if you don't have a good mechanic take it to your local Ford Dealer. If your truck a 4X4 is the noise coming from your transfer case. Anyway you look at it if it is any of the above problems it is going to get expensive.

im not really sure that its the transmission thats slipping, the transmission runs fine it shifts fine and there doesnt seem to be any noise coming from it. it seems like the power from the motor isnt even reaching the tranny

i talked to a mechanic and he said that he thinks the problem with the tranny has to do with the thing (i forget what its called) that moniters how much fluid is being pumped into the tranny. He also said that it could be the hoses. Does this sound right?
