Default air bag lights why?

hello i am new here and i was wandering if anyone might know what could be causing my airbag light to come on. when i first start up my truck it blinks a couple of times and then stays lit. it is a 2004 f150 heritage 4.6L v-8 w/ auto trans. with less than 20,000 miles on it. sorry but i do not know what other info you may need.

On my 02 just below lite I can insert my key and turn it to air bag off and the lite is on at all times in that position. Maybe your truck is similiar.

On 04 - present year F-150's the airbag on the passenger side will only deploy if 75lbs or more of weight is registered by a sensor in the passanger seat. Whenever anyone less than 75lbs sits in the passenger seat or I place something that has some weight to it, but it weighs less than 75lbs a light comes on that indicates that the airbag is off.

So, I would say that you have something in the seat that weighs less than 75lbs, or you have an issue with that sensor.

Just a guess...

he has a heritage....may differ from the 04+ normal trucks

go to autozone and get them to scan for dtc's, then you will have an idea if the light is shorted or what is going on to cause it

thanks for the info the light i am referring to is in the instrument cluster (right hand lower corner) i also have a place to put the key in and turn it on and off on the dash closer to the passenger its been off for awhile and that light has stayed lit since turning it off. do you happen to know if autozone charges to check your codes?

I'm led to believe Auto Zone runs a test free. The lite by the key will be on if the air bag is switched off. Turn it, the key to on position and see if that lite goes off, don't know but maybe the inst. panel lite is another reminder.

its a free test, see what codes you are tossing with the key in the off and on air bag positions
