97 4.6L oil cooler question. Help
in my 4.6 4x4, oil started coming from the coolant tank. Thought it might be the oil cooler so i removed it along with the remote hoses. Does this engine NEED the oil cooler of will it be fine without one? Do ALL 4.6 4x4s have a cooler? I just screwed the oil filter to the adapter housing on the block. Havent driven it yet so i just needed a little help in this. I do tow a 4500lb boat about 4 times a year about 60 miles.

Yes you need the cooler. I removed mine 150K miles ago for the same reason. I purchased a universal cooler at the auto parts store and mounted it in front of the radiator support core. No oil in the water.

Marc, I bought the remote oil filter setup like i pulled off but was wanting to return it and save a little money. Do you remember what cooler you bought and the price? I seem to have another problem now where after filling the system, after it runs a while the upper hose gets hot like its supposed to meaning the tstat opened, and the upper hose is hard like water pump is working but lower hose stays at about 90 degrees and no hot fluid in the recovery tank. Any thoughts on that? Clogged rad? Water pump issue?
