Default 89 5.0 motor pulsing

Ok, here's the problem. My buddy has a 1989 F-150 XLT 5.0. He's has problems with the motor pulsing/stalling for the last few months. I've changed the IAT sensor, ECT sensor, TPS and both intakes gaskets. He was told it had a vacuum leak and that's where it was. Low and behold, I fixed the timing today (had to pull the distributor to get the lower intake out), I found the check engine light on. I'm getting a 34 and 51.
34 is either the EVP sensor high or PFE sensor low. 51 is the ECT sensor, but he has an aftermarket cluster with a temp gauge in it.
I guess my question is, how the do i fix this?? Could a cracked exhaust manifold and missing exhaust cause this? Most of his exhaust is gone, he has from the manifold to the cat. The rest just fell off. Can ANYONE help me?
