Default 87,000 mile maintenance

I have an 06 f150 4.6 v8 4x4. im curious as to what maintenance people have done on their trucks themselves. I looked in the owners manual and the list of maintenance schedules they have is ridiculous! im no certified mechanic, but have basic mechanic skills. i will not take my truck to the dealer to add some fluid and charge me 75 bucks an hour. I would like to know what you have done, and how easy or hard it was. merry Christmas!

Adding fluids to any of your differentials or even changing the fluid is really easy and can be done in the driveway. I know that keeping all of those scheduled services done pays off. I have a 05 XL 4.6 with 246,000 miles. All services were conducted as suggested by the dealership and it runs perfect.

Other than changing the engine oil on my 2000 f-150 the next most important fluid and filter service is your transmission. If it's a stick it's easy as changing engine oil. Cost is about $30. If it's an automatic, have someone do it. Most quick lube shops do this. It's usually $125 to $150 and well worth it. The oil is about $6 a quart and it holds about 19 quarts if done with the torque converter drained (recommended) My truck has 153K miles and I've had it done it 2 times.
