4x4 noise help. 4x4 newbie
I recently purchased a 2011 4x4 f150 w 89000 miles. Signed as is. Got a 3 yr 36000 mile warranty through bank....I noticed when engaged into 4 low/high and when I get up to certain speed like 20 30 I hear like a homing noise coming from the front. ...it has the sound like a noisy tired would make on the highway. ...when you slow down you can just hear it slowly whine down...first 4x4...is this normal? Fluids are full under chassis.

Any time you have a whine from gearing it's a sign of improper gear lash. On a newer vehicle you shouldn't hear anything when it's in 4x4 HIGH. In 4x4 LOW you might expect some whining but you would only be driving up to 20 miles an hour. I would get it back to wherever the warranty is held and at least get it on record that there is a problem. I drive a 1992 Ford Explorer w/ 229K miles and it doesn't whine. Good luck

I have a 95 XLT 4x4 with the 302. When I have it in 4H if I crank the wheel to the right, I get a clunking noise, on the drivers side. When turning to the left it isnt as bad. My first thought is maybe the hub or ujoint. This is my first 4x4 so i have no experience with a 4wd system.
