Default 4R75E probably toast DIY swap?

'07 FX2, 5.4L, 141,000miles, 4R75E trans that is probably shot. If it comes down to needing a replacement, is this a DIY job with the truck on stands?

I've pulled and replaced manual RWD transmissions and clutches before while lying under the vehicle, just want to know of any gotcha's. I can get a remanufactured unit for about $1,500 and save as much on labor.

No one?

Does anyone here know if the 4R75E will clear the crossover exhaust pipe and sway bar?

I'd rather not disturb the Y pipe since the passenger side doesn't have a slip joint and would have to be detached from the manifold ahead of the cat.

If removing the tailshaft housing will let it clear I'd rather remove that.

I'm not entirely sure. I had to get the transmission in my 07 rebuilt twice, but a shop did it all. I believe it will clear everything though, even if it doesn't and you have to unbolt the y-pipe (I really think it will clear), you'd save a ton of money doing it yourself. My last rebuild was a full overhaul. The inner drum stripped, I lost 3rd gear, burned up all the clutches, broke the OD band, messed up the OD piston, valve body had to be cleaned, and some other little things. Cost me $2600 for the rebuild through AAMCO.

Thanks. I'm going to wait until after the Holiday then deal with it. Labor at a couple of shops to swap with one I source is about $600. My son and I can do it. I have instructions and the trans will clear the Y pipe if it is rotated forward after securing the TC. Just need to rent or borrow a trans jack.
