I changed the intake & plenum gaskets last month as suggested by others on my 2000 4.2 V6 and the check engine light has stayed off. 4 hours to take it apart and $180 in gaskets from Ford and 4 hours to reassemble.

I have this same problem on my 150 for 5 years as I have limited money . I just disconnect the battery and then go get it inspected before it come back on. I would like ot find the problem but all i am told is they need to trouble shoot at 75 hr before they can tell me how much to fix.

I understand the money issue. Forced to retire last year keeps my money tight. Scott44 you can continue clearing the code forever as long as it's a minor vac leak at the manifold gaskets to the heads. The problem, however, is the same issues occurs with the water jacket seals, that are part of the same intake gasket. I've seen it more than once where the coolant seal fails, fills a cylinder and bends a rod. It may never happen but if it does "Game over"

I finally got around to changing out the plenum bolts on mine noticing the previous owner had been there but didn't change them out. 1 was even loose.
Haven't had the SES light up since. Runs like a champ, gained the torgue back too. Been through a couple of tanks of gas just waiting for it to come back on.
Now that I posted the results, hmmm.

When I replaced the intake manifold gaskets on my 2000 4.2 as I removed the upper plenum there was a rubber 90 with a hard plastic hose that went to the PCV valve. It had a 1/4" hole in it. You can't see it by just looking at the engine but it's right under the throttle body on the bottom of the plenum. It has a plastic insert that goes up into the manifold and a 15" hard plastic hose that goes to the PCV valve. The part is $67 at Ford (the only place I could find it) There are no clamps on it so you can reach under and pull it off. Hope that's your vac leak and code issue.
