Did you get a warranty when you bought the truck? If you are handy with a meter and can check to see if your contacts are dirty on the slider and driver's side window, you could make sure it isn't just a cleaning it needs. There are previous posts that have the schematics and pictures of the contacts.
Otherwise, take it to your Ford Dealer and see what they say. Ask for the number for their Ford Rep, especially if they want to charge you over $400. I had no warranty and was able to get mine replaced for $386 plus tax.

Good info though. My friend is a tech at the local Ford dealership so I'll have him check on it too

So I just bought a 2013 FX4 and when I try out the Rear Defroster, the light doesn't come on and nothing heats up. Had no idea this didn't work when I bought it. Didn't think to test it.
I have done the open/close on window. Nothing changed.
Should I just take it to a dealer?

I have a '13 F150 XLT 5.0 4x4, and the heated back glass - *AND* got it successfully replaced under warranty. What ended up being the problem is that, even though it was covered under warranty (36K bumper to bumper, as well as all of the ESPs), they kept using the wrong part #.
The part # for the back glass is 342006; they kept trying to run that, and in the system, that reads as "unheated back glass."
The ACTUAL part # for the heated back glass is 342006H. Once they ran that part # (for the heated back glass), they had no issues.
Hope this helps someone; I'm finding there's a startling lack of knowledge of this stuff at the dealerships.

From what I gather, the heated mirrors still work even though theres no light on dash...fck it thats good enough for me. Another Piece of crap problem that I guess were all supposed to pay for out of pocket...Im not forking out a grande to replace the entire rear window so the defrost can work.
Thanks Ford, they should have corrected this.

TL;DR the rest of the thread (LOL ) mainly because I'm at work; but I noticed people complaining in this thread about the same issue I had.

Right? LOL Originally the service writer told me $9xx or so and I said "Uh, no. It's under warranty, and it needs to be covered as such, but even if it WASN'T, I'm not paying $900. I'll just give my kid a rag and an ice scraper and have him take care of it."

So if my truck is out of warranty since I'm technically the 4th owner, (auction took ownership) and I didn't buy and extended warranty, will mine be covered at all?
Right now it's $120 just to diagnose it... It's there now and I should have answer this afternoon.
I'm not so much concerned about the rear defrost not working, I just want my mirrors to heat.
What a pain.
