2011 Ecoboost Downhill Surge 2nd Gear
Hey Everyone,
While taking this (new to me) F-150 into the dealer today I noticed a strange phenomenon my other 2011 Eco did not do.
Coming down a fairly steep hill near our place I commonly downshifted my old truck into 2nd gear and coasted down the hill saving my brakes. No problems.
With this new truck, in 2nd gear going down the same hill about 40-50km/hr the truck keeps continually surging forward. The RPM's jump 2-300 each surge and they are very frequent with no interference from me.
My foot is off the gas off the brake and the truck just lurches forward continually. My other 2011 F-150 Eco was smooth. It didn't do this.

Holy crap did I just stumbled into my truck issue? I have the same surging issue when engine braking on downhill while manually shiftied into lower gear. I have been dealing with this issue since last September my 14 F150 Ecoboost with only 5000 miles on it. Since then I brought my truck to two different dealers and neither of them were able to diagnose since it was intermittent problem without code. I have to look into this. Today I accidentally discovered that when I put my engine in Tow/Haul mode on downhill it surges on and off like crazy.

Mine does the same. Really noticeable coming down a steep winding grade where the speed limit is around 30 MPH. I typically keep the 10 speed in 3rd until coming to curves marked 20 MPH then downshift to 2nd. It always surges ahead when doing this. The first time it startled me but now I expect this. I would think that sooner or later this will cause someone and accident.
The Shop Foreman at the local Ford dealer said he drove a couple of new ones like mine and they did the same. Appears to be a trait of the beast.
