Default 2006 5.4L V8 Stuck in 4x4Low

Hi all,

So I let a friend borrow my 2006 F150 last night and he thought it would be funny to leave it parked on a sand bank we have near our house. When I went to drive it today it was in 4x4 Low and I can't seem to get it out.

I've tried all the tricks of driving it forwards and backwards, messing with the switch while in Neutral, etc. and have had no luck getting back out of 4x4 Low.

At this point, I feel like my best option may be to remove the motor off the transfer case and switch it over manually. I read that this was possible online, but honestly have no idea how to do this.

Can someone with a bit more mechanical know-how let me know if this is the best option, or if there's perhaps something else I should try? Also, if this is the best route to take, can someone possibly give me a run down on how to do it.

The bump stop in the motor is damaged and the contacts have passed the point where the 4x4 computer lost signal and can't return it to 2 WD. Here's a link that will help you fix your issue. All the Ford electronic T-Cases are the same. http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/...d.php?t=202166

Yes there is a relay computer on your truck that directs the motor to the correct position so the gears are set properly. You can disengage the transfer case motor w/o messing with this unit as long as your are getting signal to the motor. Unplug the motor and have someone push the buttons and confirm 2 pins have power coming from the harness. Pull the motor and follow the directions on the link I posted to manually disengage the 4x4 and repair the motor bump stop on the gear. Good luck
