Default 2005 f150 fx4 with 5.4L 3v v8

Purchased the truck a few weeks ago and was told it dropped oil pressure.well I was putting everything back together that the person had torn down, and behold there is a pile of metal shavings in the oil pan.
My question is,does that mean a complete engine rebuild or just maybe the main bearings and stuff ? Any info is greatly appreciated

The metal could have come from many places including the oil pump. Once the motor is filled with shavings you're pretty much going to have to pull it all apart so the block can be hot tanked and all the oil passages blown out. The good news is you may only need a new set of bearings and rings and a master rebuild gasket set. Depending on the mileage on the motor you may want the heads checked and the valves lapped. Good luck.
