Default 2004 Ford F150 Transmission help needed

Forgive me but I am new to the forums and I was unable to find anything pertaining to my situation.

I purchased a 2004 Ford F150

It has a 4.6L with a Automatic transmission

The reverse gear is none functional but all forward gear, park, and neutral work as intended.

My question is will a master rebuild kit for my transmission fix this issue or do I need to purchase a used transmission?

According to my local ford dealer my transmission is a 4R75W this was verified using my VIN.

I would like some advice on the route I should take in order to fix the issue with the transmission. Thank you all for any help you can provide, I am grateful in advance.

I've never been much of a transmission guy but as I understand it, if your first gear works so should the reverse. The newer trannys have several electronic solenoids that control this function so that may be your issue, not a whole transmission. I'd look on YouTube.

A master rebuild kit should do the trick
