2003 F-150 4x4 not working
#11
My truck is the 2004 Heritage and my 4X4 is no longer working. I am thinking it might be the switch on the dash gone bad. I have it out but don't have a clue how to check to see if it really is bad. I suspect this switch because it has always been touchy about working. To go into 4H you had to turn it almost to the 4L position before it would engage. Then to go back to 2H you had to turn to the left "hard" to disengage. If it is this switch it will be a pretty easy fix but would like to know if that is the problem before spending $56 dollars at Autozone. Hate to spend that much money and not solve the problem. Anyone that knows how to check the switch itself I would really appreciate the info. Jim.

I gave things some more thought and think the switch is bad. There are four wires coming into the back of the switch; red/blue, blue #1, blue#2 and black. With truck running blue #1 is hot with 12 volts. With switch in 2H there is no continuity between blue #1 and any of the other three terminals. That should be correct to my thinking. If I change the switch to either 4H or 4L there still is no continuity between terminals.
Sounds logical enough to me to try a new switch. I will get back and let you know how it went, might be a few days, shows no stock in store. Jim.
