2000 f150, 5.4L...coughing during acceleration
Alright Guys,
I know whats wrong with my F150 because it has happened before, 2 or 3 times over the years, but would like to know how to fix it myself. It is a 5.4L engine with 250,000 miles on it and still runs great. The resister's or coil's on the spark plug or plugs have gone bad and is causing miss firing during acceleration. This has happened before and the dealer always replaced the part but at a high cost. Can I do this fix myself and what is the part I need? Should I replace all the plugs?
Thanks,
John

Has the CEL come on? If so what are the codes? The codes will tell you which cylinders are misfiring.(this form has a decoder) Replacing the plugs is a good idea but you'll need to replace the coils that are bad as well. Try pricing them at RockAuto.com. If you are pretty mechanical you'll do fine. U-Tube has some great videos on this work but remember getting the plugs out can be a Bi##h.
