Default 1997 4.6L Romeo Head Install

Hi All,

My name's Rich (no I'm not). Long time Ford kinda guy. Currently have a 1997 F150, 4.6L Romeo; 2002 F350 7.3L diesel; 2001 5.4L Navigator in the driveway. No youngster (60 yo). Been working on all my vehicles as more of a hobbyist for about 45 years. Drag raced in my youth and have rebuilt a few engines and transmissions in my day.
The problem is: what was supposed to be a blown head gasket (#3 cylinder), turned into a cracked head on that cylinder. Got the new/used head and the old one back from the machine shop the other day and am ready to start install. But the white out marks I put on the old head are not there anymore, and of course the new head doesn't have any. How am I going to line up the timing and ensure it's correct when I install the heads? I'm not familiar with these SOHC engines and how to do that. I think I did set the crank on TDC, #1 does look like it's up. Are there marks on the head gear for TDC to match? Does it really make a difference now how the chain lines up?
Tried finding info on this site and online to no avail. Chilton's didn't tell me anything.

Hope to get some info from you'all.
Thanks,
Rich

Thank You JCR 56! Since I posted this earlier today I finally found info on the web on it. Just aligning the marks on the chain to those on the gears should solve my problem. Still have some cleanup to do before installing the heads, but it should go slow and smoothly.

Thanks again,
Rich
