Default 1992 F150 Manual Locking Hubs

My front left HUB won't come free. I pulled off the front cover and found the piece of plastic that engages the gears looked light it was melted and broke apart. Can I buy just the piece of plastic.

There may be more wrong, yet. Tomorrow I was thinking about swapping the plastic from the right to the left side and see if I can get the hub out of the lock position.

Welcome to the site!

Trying to think here - it's well into Miller-time here, and you know how that works as far as thinking goes - if you pull all the pieces-parts out of the hub, excluding the wheel bearing lock-nut - it should unlock.

May take a look at some of the online resources such as rockauto.com or lmctruck.com for replacement parts.

Would be interested to know why this part melted - something ain't right.

Default F150 Manual Locking Hubs

I ended up buying a new set of Warn hubs at my local Carquest.

Installation was easy.

When I took the left one out, it kind of fell apart.
The right side came out in one peice.
These were original. Almost 16 years old.

Guess I need to lock them in once in a while to keep them lubed up.
Warn installation instructions said to lock them up for at least 1 mile every month.

The factory hubs are nothing more than red centered warn standard hubs. I have one warn and one ford on my 93. I pulled these off of my 83 when I changed my ball joints because the o-rings on the drivers side were gone. The early hubs and warn hubs are full turn while the later hubs are quarter turn. The full turn are easier to lock in.

I had to do the same thing for my 1994 f150, I got the truck down a wet grassy hill, shifted it into 4X4 to get out and I just spun my tires, then I had to wait till the sun dried the dew so I could get out.

The warn hubs I had made the truck squeal the tires when I was on dry pavement taking a turn when I was testing them out. It was like I had a limited slip or something in the front axle.
