Don't know if this helps but the dealer ask that I bring my new truck (2014 F150) in at 1500 miles to do a quick inspection and to meet with the service dept. to address any issues. I requested an oil change at that time even through they said oil changes are done at every 5000 miles. I"m thinking motor should be about "broke in" and it's cheap insurance.

My dealer told me 5,000 on initial change, then to go by the OLM.

I know on my new Eco F150 the dealer told me 5000 miles also. But I did not want to wait that long. I change it at 1500 with Motorcraft full syn

I'm in the early 1st change club also. Generally between 1k and 2k. There is usually some sort of material left from the engine manufacturing process so I like to get that first oil/filter out of there relatively early.

There is a book in the glove box that will give you all the information you need.

There is no set mileage and the dealer that told you 5000 is just making stuff up.

I'm in the low mileage group also. Not only is the break in from rod, main bearings and everything else wearing in to each other, if the truck has been sitting on the lot for a while the age of the oil is something to consider. For bikes and cars that I have bought new I've done the first oil change in the 300-600 mile range. When I bought my 2014 truck I asked the sales man when the new buyers bring them in since the dealer pays for the first one. They call it the 5k but it is the free one to be used anytime the owner wants to use it. The salesman did say there are other people that like it done early, and some wait for the 5k mileage point to do it. Of course he could have been just saying that, but I didn't get that impression from him.
