My 02 is a 4.2 automatic. Problem just occurred today when i jumped on the highway (running cold less than 2 min away, also was a chilly morning) and when i was attempting to go over 45mph or so something was just not right with the shifting. Didn't want to go into the next gear i am guessing 4th or so. Doesn't have a tachometer so I couldn't tell what the RPM's were but it was higher due to not shifting. The problem went away maybe a couple miles down the highway but I would like to know what the problem is so that I can fix it. Checked the trans fluid and it was fine. Drove home on the highway today (it was much warmer out then if that makes a difference) and didn't have any issues. Any suggestions would be grateful and I will provide more information if needed.
