First and foremost, put a little extra grease in each cup before assembly. This will help keep needles in place. Second, after assembly, move or flex the joint through its range. If it binds a little, strike the yoke not the ears. This will relax everything and be nice and smooth if all went well. Third, and this is comming from a lube man that I worked with at a dealership. He hated using anything but Ford joints, claimed others have slightly different tolerances.

Late reponse, I have always had access to a good vice and hold everything there. Remove snap rings in the driveshaft half first, not the loose floppy yoke half. Using a suitable driver, a socket will work, drive out from one side as far as it will go, grab exposed cup with pliers and remove, now drive out the opposite direction. Now clamp the yoke and repeat the process. In stall the joint in the yoke first and then into the driveshaft. Repeat at the other end of shaft if replacing both. Always point the zerk fitting toward the driveshaft, not away from it. Its always nice to have both zerks in same relationship to each other. This way when greasing both are accessable without rotating driveshaft again for access.
