If you have exposed inner wall ("studs"), then something like CeloTex (hardboard insulation) rates at R7.4 per inch. If your walls are in tact, then a spray foam insulation?

You might find your way over to ExpeditionOverland.com where a lot of "travel" folks hang out. You'll likely get a more thorough list of ideas there.

Why would you foam it if it would easily catch fire ?
That would be like living on the edge of a razor blade and waiting to fall.

You probably don't want to hear this, but if you plan on using it in any real cold temps, you're better off selling it and buying a four seasons type trailer.

They come insulated, double pane windows, heaters for the water tanks, etc...

Do your research on this. There are several types of foam insulation out there and they are not equal. Some are flame-spread resistant, some burn very nicely and create a nice, thick, toxic smoke when they do burn. Spray foam is nice because it acts as an air barrier also, stopping drafts. The downside is it's expensive and you need several inches to get a decent overall R value. Look into doing an inch of spray foam to stop the draft, then using batt insulation inside of the spray to help with R value and keep cost/weight down.

spray foam is the way to go. closed cell foam gives R7 per inch.whats your wall thickness?2"= R14. Airtight, and locks everything together.

Hang on. This forum is good but there's a much better place to ask these questions - the best place around for building and modifying trailers is the Expedition Portal (http://forum.expeditionportal.com/) and they have a GREAT Expedition Trailer sub-forum you should check out:

Good luck!
