Get a square shafted screwdriver and hammer it into the lock. Then grab it low on the shaft as close to the tank as you can get and turn the screwdriver with a crescent or vise grips etc. and force the lock open.Or you can pay a Locksmith to make a key that fits it. I bought a tank off ebay in 04 or so and paid a locksmith to open it/make a key for it because I didn't want to jam a screwdriver in it and mess it up.

I like it. Sure, some dirtbag could pry it open, but more likely they'll move on to an easier target. Same for locking gas caps. The typical plastic ones (with an outer cover that freewheels when locked) are VERY easy to remove with a pair of Channel Locks. Usually without even damaging the cap.

My advice is that you have to find a lock cylinder from a donor truck and get it re-keyed by dealer or Locksmith to work with your key. Rekey usually costs around 25 bucks.

Thanks I like this idea. If your truck is black or a darker color they also make black ones...

You literally made me laugh so much. I don't know if you actually have a real concern that someone might actually be a ***** enough, and put something in your tank.
