Default Control Arm Lowering

So I know that on 04-08 f150s, there is a difference in the control arm mounting holes between 2wd and 4wd models (by about 1" I think). Would it be possible to drop the mounting holes? I imagine up top, it'd be the equivalent of drilling out lower holes in the strut boot and adjacent metal pieces . But down below it would be trickier as one would have to cut out the current mounting "bucket" and weld in a deeper one as the stock one on 2wds are not deep enough to accommodate drilling holes lower down. Does this sound possible?
