Default Yakima Outdoorsman bed rack and Q-tower roof rack install for canoe carry

Thought I would post some pics of my recent installation of a Yakima Outdoorsman bed-mounted rack and Yakima Q-tower roof rack on my 2015. I could not find ANY photos of these on a 2015 F-150 anywhere online. My main use will be for carrying a canoe, but the racks will also be used for lumber on occasion.

The Outdoorsman rack and crossbar and the proper gutter clips for the roof rack (#130) were purchased from The Rack Warehouse, who I highly recommend. They double checked what I ordered and recommended the 'compact' Outdoorsman rather than the 'full-size' that I thought I needed. It's 3" lower, and does seem to line up nicely with the roof rack.

I re-used the roof rack from my '95 Chevy PU; it has the 'old style' Q-towers (main difference is how they clamp onto the crossbar). Both of the crossbars are 66 inches long.

There is not a large gap between the door and roof, so there's not much room for the gutter clips. The angle of the clips where they grasp the roof edge didn't look quite right, so I bent them slightly for a better fit. I suspect that this was due to the use of the old style towers.

I would like to find a rack that you could still use a soft bed cover with. Maybe something that fit in the corner pockets.

I agree. I made sure that my new cover left the bed pockets open so that I could install a rack in the future if needed. I have one 10' kayak now but may be looking at a tandem in the future.

FlashKaleo, are you asking the OP? If so, they are 66-inch cross bars.

Since I got a cap I no longer use the Outdoorsman rear rack. I mounted a Yakima cross bar on the rear of the cap. Works great and it is removable in 30 seconds. Comprised of #8000152 SkyLine Towers, #8000226 Landing Pads 6, #8003536 RoundBar SL Adapter Kit, and a 66" round bar.

The Thule Tracrac SR uses the stake pocket holes to clamp rails down on your bed that the rack slides onto. You can still use a soft cover with it.

Yes... thanks! I am looking at doing the same as your original post. May go up to the 78" bars.

I have an adarac on a 18 screw and really like it. I have a gator hard tonneau cover and with a little work you can flip it back. It is nice to be able to throw a rack on the truck in about 10 minutes.
