I bought a new cap once, they took my Vin and color matched a Leer for my new at the time GMC, it looked perfect.

It was black too.

I would make them take a return or make it right.

They must not be using the right paint.

I just talked with a buddy in the paint department at my local parts store. He said with the correct paint code, they could match it dead on. No need to see the color they are trying to match. According to him, the mix systems are so accurate that they almost always match.
I would send it back.

Im not sure if they would do anything for you. Maybe try and email ARE directly first to see what they say. They are probably going to tell you that your not going to get a 100% match since its fiberglass vs aluminum. I know there was a few colors they have a hard time matching. Tuxedo black because of the metal flakes, White platinum since its a tri coat.

Edit: just remembered a few years back someone was having trouble getting red candy paint to match. ARE asked them to send the gas cap door with the cap so they could match that.

I'd take it back. The worse they can do is say no. I'm OCD especially with my vehicles. I would obsess over that and look at it constantly.

I would send it back as well. It's noticeably a different color than the truck.

I would contact the manufacturer and get their input. If that's the best they can do, I would send it back.

Bubby4113, you're asking people who threaten to refuse to accept delivery of their truck because it has surface rust on the rear axle or differential if they would send back the cap if they didn't think the color match. I'm pretty sure the answers are all going to be a foregone conclusion ... LOL.

Bottom line: If you don't like it, send it back a DOZEN times. It's your money - be satisfied or go elsewhere.

Take it back and tell them to get a new one in tuxedo black or go somewhere else
