Windshield wipers left ON in Carwash...
#11
I thought i had a defective wiper system when wipers were not working during snow/ice storm. Brought it in for service. They shut of the auto sensing function, as it did pick up blowing ice and snow (sensor is on windshield by rearview mirror). Intermittent wipers work perfectly now. Never thought about how auto sensing would activate in car wash. Good to know since I have had it through the car wash 4 times now.

This was due to me giving it a manual swipe, and immediately going to email on my phone and leaving the wipers in the ON position. I am an honest guy, so I will tell them what happened, and then ask for warranty work.
Just don't kick me off the forum, it won't happen again.

Not once in over 9 years and over 10 new vehicles have I *ever* had a problem or had ANYTHING happen to any of my vehicles because of them.
CAN something happen? Sure. But I go to the same place every time, I know everybody there (been going there for ~13 years), and I know they maintain and take care of their equipment.

I never put my vehicles in a car wash. No point in keeping it nicely waxed to have them scratch it up. I will go to the self-serve spray bay if I absolutely have to wash it during the winter, maybe 1 or 2 times a year.

I don't normally (ever) go through a drive-thru wash. I prefer my own driveway, soft brushes and sponges. But I'm not against the self-service bays in a pinch.
Wife and I were out Saturday, and had extra time before meeting friends, and my wife "treated" me to a drive-thru wash. I winced the whole way through, worried about paint scratches and gouged aluminum wheels, but thankfully it came through fine.
I didn't run the wipers, and DID retract the side mirrors.
I don't plan to make it a regular occurrence, though...

I've never taken any of my vehicles through car washes. Other people in my family do and their vehicles are covered in swirl marks and light scratches from using those car washes.

$Damage$ report-
I took the truck into the dealer today. I was able to look at the damage myself in the shop: I snapped a wiper motor off its mount and broke several bolts. The new parts with labor are $385.00 and I have to wait 5 days .
No one to blame but myself, but this will never, ever happen again. At least to me.

On more than one occasion we've stopped on a road trip to clean the WS in my wife's Audi and I forgot to turn off the sensors. As soon as the wet sponge hit the WS it would kick on and throw that nasty water all over me. I would then glare at her (her car; she should know to turn them off) as she was laughing which just made it worse.
It's a simple switch in the Audi to turn them off. You have to go thru the settings on the F150 to turn them off? Really? What a pain...
