Default Windshield replacement costs on 2015..

One rock, one moving windshield crack which is now over 24 inches.. I am scheduled for replacement this coming Wednesday at the dealership. Have to do it there because it appears there is a camera which needs to be recalibrated after windshield replacement.

Even though I have "free glass" as part of Minnesota State Law. I'm guessing that doesn't include camera calibration so I'm expecting to have to pay for that..

Anyone with experience with this?

In for your results....I've read that the glass is pretty expensive due to the high tech features.

It cost me 357.00 for the factory Carlite "SoundScreen" glass. Took a stone with 400 miles on it. Thats on a Platinum with all the options

Safelite charged my insurance company $580 for the windshield plus $80 to install yesterday for a new windshield in my XLT with SoundScreen. The glass was OEM as the Safelite tech told me there is no other supplier at this time. Could have been cheaper if it was not an insurance job. I have no idea nor do I care.

We did one yesterday with lane departure. It's pretty straight forward. No tricks or stupid engineering going on.

$484, Out of pocket no-insurance turn-in, Safelite, OE Ford glass because they say Safelite product isn't available yet.

2 rock chips in one day.
First rock chip, very small, but within hours it had legs.
Second rock smash, ..., No chance in hell of fixing that one, ..., & it had legs within a few miles of driving.

There was a comment by the glass guy that the windshields are lighter & cheaper now, so it'll be harder to save them after a chip. If your on the road & driving at hiway speed, it will probably develop legs quickly.

Maybe Commander316 above can share an opinion or truth to any of that?

they are lighter than say, 97-03 model trucks, but there is a whole lot more options and electronics going on now, so the price reflects that..

i personally wouldn't let Safelite touch even my worst enemy's vehicle, because i spend a fair amount of time fixing their mistakes.. in fact, they are in the process of being sued by Ultra Bond for using sub par glass.

I ended up not paying anything or even seeing the bill. Apparently there is only one glass manufacturer.. SoundScreen sounds right. I think my original was that too.. logo was in a different place though.

Default Windshield replacement costs on 2015..

$514 to have mine done at the house today with oem Ford sound screen glass. A large bolt came through the windshield going down the interstate. Luckily missed the hood. Had glass all the way in the back seat of the truck.

Cheaper thinner glass and little to no sun screen across the top like the older ones!
