Default Why ford why?

I saw this link and got excited because I wanted to do the same only with Thule uprights and bars since I have a few extra kits around.

http://www.orsracksdirect.com/2012-f...ike-racks.html

Then I went and measured the gap between the ridges on the top of the bed of the 15 and they aren't consistent. Stupid FORD. I may look cool, but it's certainly not practical.

Anyone else figure out how to do this yet?

Thanks!

Looks like these guys came up with a couple different solutions. Not as clean looking as what I originally posted though.

I did see that the Rhino Rack looks a bit wider. Maybe it's wide enough to cover the ridge and hold up the rack. I'll reach out to them and see the width.

Mounted mine directly on top of the bed rail. Drilled holes, used stainless wing anchors that were on those adjustable zip ties.

Can you take a picture of the underside of the rails where you put the wing nuts? I'm wondering if they have different top caps for the different trim levels. My XLT sport has 2 ridges that look different than your platinum.

These appear to be 2" wide. If that's the case it should cover the widest gap on my XLT Sport plastic. I'll have to measure it again in the daylight.

Looks like this guy just screwed the rails to the top. I was trying to avoid the gap he has on the outside edge.

So this is what the top of my rails look like. I also noticed that there isn't a cut out for the front stake pocket. What does everyone else have? It looks like there is room for one but it's not there. My truck is a SCREW SPORT 5.5' bed.

So I was curious what Ford did to install the bed rails they offer as accessories like these.

http://accessories.ford.com/bed-prod...box-11310.html

WTF?

5-1/2' beds require trimming of the plastic bed cap to access the front stake pockets - the Installation Kit allows technicians to make a neat cut for a finished look

I love this truck but the more I have it and find stupid things like this the more I question my decision. Just little things that are aggravating.
