Trailer Wiring Fault
#3
After I had towed for the first time and detached the trailer, I had a fault message come up (can't recall if it was the same wording) the next time I started the truck. I tapped the OK button and it went away, never to return. The system must have assumed the trailer was still plugged in. My trailer has electric brakes.

I did read a post on here about the computer keeping up with the amount of miles pulling a trailer. One member mention he didn't turn off the trailer settings and for awhile the computer documented the miles driven after disconnecting the trailer as if he was pulling the whole time. Maybe that's related.

I should note I have 1500 miles and have never connected to a trailer, My truck was ordered and delivered with roughly 10 miles. I doubt the dealer hooked a trailer too it.

Did you ever get this resolved? I am having the same issue with my 2015 Expedition. Never used for towing but I get the "Trailer Wiring Fault" Message every time I drive it. I have had to to the dealership 3 times already with no luck and I am sick of that damn waiting room.

mine has come on a 2nd time in 5000mi, so not enough to prob to take it in.
I also had the foglights only come on vs headlights&foglights together
these elec. bugs are the hardest to fix

I just started getting this error also. I have about 3,000 miles with a trailer and 7,000 total truck miles. I was using the trailer connector on the truck to raise the trailer off the ball, had to raise and lower several times, it has an electric motor jack. I then started smelling something like insulation. Since then, the fault comes on each time I start the truck. Truck is an XLT Ecoboost with full towing capabilities.

You guys have the OEM trailer brake controller? I installed the OEM one with the help of a thread on here. after I purchased and installed mine, ford changed the part number because it was faulty, 1 member, if i remember correctly, his wires that ran to the back bumper burned up due to the brake controller. let me look for the thread..
