Trailer disconnects and reconnects

Trailer disconnects and reconnects
I towed for the first time with my new 2015 F150 just over a week ago. It was about an 800 mile round trip pulling 4500 lbs. The truck did fantastic with the load on the TN hills crossing the state. However the trailer would pop-up that it was disconnected and a few minutes later that the trailer was connected. During the times that it was disconnected it did not seem like the electronic brake controller was engaging the brakes. The trailer is about 6 months old, and the truck had just over 1000 miles on it. I never had any issues with my 2000 F150 with a prodigy p3 brake controller. The new truck is a SCab, 3.5 eco, and max tow.

It has to do with how well your plug fits into the socket on the truck. on my 2012 i had 3 different trailers with brakes on them and anytime you made a hard right it would say disconnected... you really need to make sure the plug is seated all the way in and the "door" that covers it is locked good into the orientation tab. IMO the ford plug is just really touchy and not real tight fitting so you get that error easily. You might also need to re route your trailer cord so it lines up more inline with the truck so it does not twist as much in turns. I also closed up some of the female openings in the plug and it helped with the false disconnect warnings.

My 2013 will do this also. I find that the trailer harness doesn't sit snug into the trucks connector. I can adjust the plug and it will reconnect. I also think cleaning the contacts will help. When it happens you not only loose the brakes but also the brake lights

This is why I was confused is I never lost the marker lights that I could see from my mirrors. I will see if I can get the plug to stay tighter. I will check the contacts on the plug again, but they should be clean. The trailer is only about 6 months old and I keep it in a garage so it stays dry. It is a 19 foot car hauler.

You may want to make sure the ground wire is security connected to the trailer from the connector... The Hitch will provide a ground if the wire is "missing" but this is typically not a good stable connection...

I had the same issue with mine. It is a sloppy fit into the receptacle that is prone to falling out. My 2005 had a much better engagement. This shouldn't be that tough to get right. How do you know if they come up with a fix for something like this?

Im getting it with 2 different trailers, one a brand new toyhauler on a test pull and the lights don't go off when it says disconnected. Also doesn't warn "no trailer connected" when I squeeze brake controller with nothing hooked up. Went to dealer and they plugged in a test box, drove around the block and couldn't duplicate, of course.
