Max Tow was limited to the Ecoboost in the previous generation as well. You could get Tow Package with the 5.0 but not the big mirrors. Now you can order the big mirrors as an add-on to either 53A (Tow) or 53C (Max Tow) so someone who wants the brake controller and big mirrors on their 3.31:1 w/Ecoboost or their 5.0 can mix and match.

You are correct. Most people have been choosing the 3.5 EB anyways.

Heavy springs will make the truck ride rough anytime you do not have it loaded right up. Seems to me the heavy duty springs are a liability unless you really have that kind of load to deal with. Same deal with the 3.55 or 3.73 rear end. Liability unless you need it.

While I agree that heavier springs can have downsides when not loaded, one of the biggest towing issues people run into is lack of payload capacity. Max tow helps fix that particular issue. You are not getting anywhere near the tow rating without being over payload with the standard springs.

Based on the past few years, very slightly more. Not a landslide by any means though. The numbers are pretty close (53% V6 vs 47% V8, 3.7 and 6.2 are roughly the same take percentage).

New to the forum so I thought I'd jump in!

Whats the difference between the different tow packages...max tow, HD tow and others? I will probably look to get a 4x4 crew w/ EB if that matters. Anybody put airbags under their trucks...pros/cons?

There is no "HD Tow" (but there is an HD Payload package).

The Tow Package (53A) includes wiring for trailer brakes and lights, a Class IV hitch receiver, upgraded front stabilizer and an auxiliary transmission cooler. It's available for all trims and all engines (and I think all axle ratios) and if you order it with the 3.5L NA v6 it includes an engine oil cooler.

The Max Tow Package (53C) includes all of 53A plus the integrated trailer-brake controller and is only available on the 3.5L Ecoboost with at least a 3.55:1 rear axle. I've seen people mention that the rear springs are upgraded for 53C but I've never seen anything from Ford that indicates that.

HD Payload Package (627) is available with either 5.0 or 3.5L Ecoboost engines and includes 53A (5.0) or 53C (3.5L Ecoboost) and the 3.73 differential. This package DOES include upgraded rear springs, and is only available on the longest wheelbase for the cab configuration chosen.

There's a specific payload package for the 2.7L Ecoboost, (622) that requires 53A and probably includes the same rear springs and differential as 627.

That might be the case, I was just basing this on what people were stating in the order thread.

Based on the lighter weight, Ford might have figured the 3.73s aren't needed.
