towing enclosed trailer
Anyone towed an enclosed car trailer with their 3.5 ecoboost? What mileage were you getting? How heavy was the load in the trailer? Im trying to decide if i should go with open or closed trailer. Only downside i can see is mileage. Id be towing a 3000lb trailer with about 4000lbs of car and tool box inside

I tow a 32' travel trailer and get between 9 & 11 mpg. I also tow a utility trailer with a golf cart, I usually get between 11 - 14 mpg

I'd recommend visiting the towing section of the forum here: https://www.f150forum.com/f82/
With that load, you will need a weight distribution hitch. And you may find that unless the load is well balanced you are close to or over your payload.
There are countless posts on this in the Towing section. Your Payload Sticker on your door jamb will tell you your payload, and then you can start doing math.
With 7,000 pounds of trailer, and 13% of that on the hitch, you're at 910. Plus 100 for the WDH, plus you and your passengers and anything you put in the truck. You MAY be fine - but do the math.

Towing mileage
Took a trip to Arizona back in March. 7 x 12 enclosed trailer loaded with 2 Harleys. Maybe 4,000 lbs. Driving 75-80ish averaged anywhere from 8 to 11.5 mpg. VERY wind dependent. The power was there though.

I think the wind is the part thats scaring me. Ive never towed anything before which is making me lean towards a open now. With an open trailer and a 3000lb car will i need a wdh or can i just run a standard drop hitch

You should not need a WD Hitch towing a 3k car on an open car trailer as long as you load the car in a way that keeps your tongue weight in check. The car in the picture is probably about 3k lbs. I backed it on to get the heaviest part (engine) closer to the trailer axles. Barely squatted the truck at all. Towed great, felt rock solid at hwy speeds, around high speed curves with bumps (bridge in the middle of a corner on a 4 land hwy) passing semis, whatever.
