Default Tire rub question. Need more smarts than me.

I have a 2.5" RC level on my platinum with 35x12.5" nittos on some +38 rims and I still have some rub. Especially in reverse or with a cabead full of people and / or really uneven terrain.

Is there any chance a set of coilovers set at the same 2.5" and some new uca's would change the "angles" in my favor and eliminate the slight rub?

Or, as I tell my wife, 2.5 inches is 2.5 inches, it doesn't matter how you get there?

Obligatory pic

2.5" is 2.5" like you said, UCA are only going to help with the upper ball joint thats it. Its the width that causes the rubbing, the farther/longer the turn radius is the more the rub. Lifting/leveling doesn't bring in the tires very much or change where the rub line is at. You can run 285/65/20 34.5" tires without any level and no rubbing. Narrower tire, less aggressive offset(yours are not much more than +44 stock wheels though) or remove crash bars will eliminate the rubbing.

I ran 35x12.50 on stock times with no rub. Didn't have to with that set up but remove the front crash bar if need to, worthless IMO.

So, I did it anyway.

I put Boss Coilovers on and the Icon UCAs. I left the boss coilovers set at whatever they were out of the box.

No more rub on the crash bars, but now it hits the UCAs at full lock.

So now I'm wondering if I crank the coilovers DOWN just a little, if it will push the tire out enough that it will clear the UCA AND the crash bar.

Do the Icon UCA's stick out further than the stock ones? Sounds like an excuse for new rims with more offset

Nope, the icons are the same size BUT the OEM UCAs are tapered on the bottom side, leaving a little "relief" for the tire. The Icons are an even radius all the way around.

Ahh makes sense, my tires and UCA are just far enough apart that I can slide a piece of paper between them (my fingers wont fit but I got some pretty big fingers). At full lock I think they might barely glaze the UCA but only the nubs (if anything) of the tires do, not the sidewall. I'll be okay till these tires are dead, but definitely going to go with new wheels and I'm thinking 0-24 offset depending on what I find when I get my new shoes.

I gotta set of goeske spacers sitting here under my desk. I don't know if they'd roll on those aftermarket rims of mine or not, but they'd put me at a 0 offset, but I'm sure I'd be all over the crash bars at that point.

I have the Boss coilovers set at 3" with the stock 20" x 8.5" x +44 offset rims with 35" x 13"(325/60-20) DuraTracs. I use .5" flat wheel spacers to keep the UCA's from rubbing the tires and there is enough thread on the stock wheel studs for the lugnuts to tighten down properly even with the spacers. These should let you clear the UCA's with your +38's. You can use 2 of the .25" ones from Pep Boys etc, or get one piece ones made like I did from Wheeladapter.com. I have them on all 4 wheels.

Thanks - there were two techs helping me with my coilovers, one thought a quarter inch spacer would do it, one did not. I don't wanna run anything more than .25 if I don't have to.

Since I have aftermarket wheels, do I need hubcentric AND wheel centric spacers from Goeske or just hub? I really don't know what wheel centric means. I'm gonna call em as soon as it gets a little later, time change and all from OK to CA.
