Default Temperature Gauge Showing Actual Temperature

I've noticed this twice now over the last two days. My platinum has the gauges on the 8" productivity screen. When I've been in stop and go traffic and pulled into a parking to park, I've come out of the store 10 minutes later and start up the truck. Since the coolant is still hot from the stop and go traffic, on startup, the radiator fan will come on at high speed and the coolant gauge bar actually displayed the tempature (226 degrees one time and 230 degrees on another occasion) for about 5 seconds and then disappear. The fan goes back to low speed after about 15 seconds.

Has anyone else ever noticed this? The thing is, I wish the actual coolant temp would always display over the gauge bar.

Default Temperature Gauge Showing Actual Temperature

This might explain a lot. I'm wondering if the trans temp and coolant temp only shows the actual number if it gets above a set point. There have been several of us trying to figure out why the trans temp doesn't show up above the gauge when In the ford literature it does.

When temps are 105 and above around here I routinely see 220 to 229 on my Scanguage in stop and go traffic. The factory guage never moves.

Since you have a Platinum, I assume you have the 8" IPC screen. The actual temperature readings--engine and trans temp--can be programmed to display above the gauges using FORScan to set the appropriate coding. Check out the thread pinned at the top of p1 in this thread.

Any of the digital dash gauges can be programmed with Forescan to do this, it s setting under the IPC module. I had it in my Lariat and did it last night to my Platinum. I noticed that the 2018 runs hotter than the 2016 by 10*. The 16 would be at 199*, rarely above 205, and the transmission would mirror the coolant. It runs about 6* warmer than the 16.
