Default Tailgate locks?

I am receiving my '15 Lariat (bringing it in from a couple states away) with the auto lock tail gate, and I wonder if it needs a tail gate lock to go on the bottom of the gate to make sure it is not removed by thieves?
Has everyone been happy with the auto locks on the tailgate? I sure wish Ford had kept the manual key lock on there, ideally a separate lock for it, and a separate key, that I could remove off my key ring. I have some expensive tools that I would rather not worry about, besides the expense of the tail gate.

Not sure... My truck has the auto-locking tailgate AND the extra lock that protects it from thieves. But my truck came with it already equipped. The dealership I bought mine from said when they first got the 2015's, someone came and stole the tailgates off almost half the lot. ...Kind of made me nervous actually.

I bought this:

For my 2011. Cheap and was easy to install. Some use a hose clamp or the Master Lock. For the cost it is cheap insurance.

Default not for '15

The way I understand it, the "gatekeeper" works for models including '14, but not '15

Here is the link to the thread for the new Ford/Mcgard Lock on my platinum. No issues with the electric lock.

Hose clamp simple deterrent but it works auto lock can be programed on the key fob to lock every time the truck is started and moved or only when passenger door is locked with key fob and it still has the key lock if you want to lock only the tail gate.

Because I'm almost never alone, I have my truck set so that one touch unlocks/locks all.

My dealer installed the mcgard lock on my tail gate. I didn't even know it was there until I went to have the truck Line-X'ed. The first time I handled it I laughed, what a joke that thing is. I realize most protection of any kind is mainly a deterrent but that thing isn't stopping anyone. It's so light weight I could rip the plastic shroud off with a pair of pliers and then wedge a screw driver on the metal clamp and pry it apart in less than a minute. I would look for something better if you want to go that rout or just use a good quality hose clamp. If you don't plan on taking it off you could put JB weld on the head of the clamp so thieves can't get a tool on it quickly.

Default Tailgate help

I just purchased a 2013 f150 lariat. It has remote start. The lock and unlock buttons work on all 4 doors but not the tailgate lock.before i call the dealer to complain that its broken i figured id find out what you guys have to say. I would think the lock and unlock buttons would work on the tailgate too. Isnt this a standard feature? The owners manual says nothing about it. Anybody have any idea how to figure out if its broken or if the truck just isnt equiped with that option.

Hi Ricky, couple things. First this thread is about locks to keep the tail gate from being removed from the truck, not the tail gate itself locking. Second this is the 2015 forum, you would probably have better luck posting a new thread in the 2013 forums. I'm not sure if the 2013's came standard with a lock or not.
