Tailgate lock

Since you mentioned you use a tonneau cover, looks like this might be a viable option:

They have a chrome version as well, if you can't find a way with an OEM solution, maybe this fits the bill. Good luck! Still in shock a lock isn't standard on every single trim. Tailgate theft is a huge market here in Texas!

My 2015 XL came with a electric locking tailgate. I have a 101A option package on my XL.
I thought the samething when I originally got the truck that I did not have any type of lock on it. I just happened to be standing near the tailgate one day and pushed the button to lock the doors and heard the lock click. Tried to open the tailgate and found it was locked. Issue solved luckily.
The easiest would be a lock with a key. You'd probably have to replace the handle only. An electric lock will be a little tougher, the biggest thing will be the wiring, are there wires underneath the rear end for a lock. Then you would also need a solenoid.
The handle is not that expensive, just need a part number.

So when you press lock button on your door or keyless remote the tailgate doesn't lock? It could be that maybe a connector came un-done. All of the 15up F-150 XL's I've seen that don't have a power locking tailgate at least have the key hole for a manual lock.
I just pulled up the 2015 F-150 brochure and it reads that the 101a includes a power locking tailgate.
If you paid for the 101a option and don't have a power locking tailgate, I would contact Ford and tell them you paid for an option and didn't receive it.

Possibly defective? My 17 XLT tailgate didn't lock when I bought it. The dealer had to replace a control module. Apparent there are a lot of issues as the part was on back order. The XL they lent me while I got the liner sprayed in locked with the door locks!
