Peragon:

My only concern is that it appears to need the front of the bed to be somewhat unloaded, otherwise you won't be able to push the panels down into that area for collapsing. With things moving in the bed, I can see where that might be an issue.

We also use the entirety of the bed on camping trips (filled to the brim), so I'm not sure a Peragon would work for me.

Extang:
I'm thinking an Extang Encore might work for my needs.....

If you load shorter items toward the front and taller items toward the tailgate, you can still make good use of most of your bed capacity.

You're right, if taller items slide forward they can block the cover from opening. When you're just putting a few items in the bed, an expandable cargo bar can help manage cargo to keep open the area where our cover retracts. They are relatively inexpensive and having one in your truck bed comes in handy for other uses too.

Most covers we ship are for trucks with the short beds - where cargo space is at a premium. Some retractable truck bed covers roll up into a fixed canister that hangs down into the bed and uses up valuable room. We compete well against those designs.

I’ve owned two trucks with the 5.5' bed and my current truck has the 6.5’ bed. On many family trips I pack the bed all the way from the front wall to the tailgate. Every time I do that, I’m thankful I don’t have a canister consuming bed space when I need every inch. True, I can’t open the cover with the bed fully loaded, but I'd rather have the space when I need it than have to work around a canister when loading suitcases, coolers and gear. With a little strategy, I still enjoy full use of my bed. I just put items I need easy access to by the tailgate. Items I know I won’t need until we arrive at our destination are loaded toward the front.

Our cover also quick releases without tools in under 30 seconds so you have the full length of your bed available whenever, wherever. And because our design folds down instead of up, our cover won't block your back window.

No bed cover is perfect for every situation, so each truck owner has to consider how they use their truck and then choose the bed cover that makes the most sense for them.

I hope that helps!

Biggest problem I see with the Peragon, winter.
I have an F1, not looking back.

We're located in northern Wisconsin, so for the last 15 years ice and snow have been a part of our design and testing DNA! If my truck is parked outside in a snowstorm, it takes a few minutes to brush the snow off before opening, but other than that (which most covers require) our cover is robust enough to work great in the cold, snow and ice.

Thanks for the realistic feedback... one question I have, how much clearance is there between the bottom of the bed and the lowest the cover folds down into the bed when opening/closing the cover? aka, how tall of an item could be in that area that wouldn't restrict the use of the cover.

You bet! That clearance varies a little bit depending on whether you have a plastic bed liner with high ridges and whether you have the 5.5' or 6.5' bed. Our panels for the 6.5' bed are a little wider, so they hang down a little farther into the bed when folded. Rough numbers, you'll have 7"-10" clear under the folded cover. So, for example, I can put a step ladder all the way to the front of the bed and still open the cover - or a stack of plywood, etc. Actually, what I use a lot is one of those plastic totes that is designed to slide under a bed (the bedroom kind) for extra storage. Those totes are the perfect size to store jumper cables, ratchet straps, etc and the height fits nicely under our folded cover at the front of the bed. So the tote is an efficient way to use that space up front under where our cover folds. It's like having a plastic tool box up there, works great.

Thank you for your interest in a Peragon cover! If you go to our website: https://www.peragon.com/buy/ and select your truck, you can add any options you'd like, select your finish color and see the price delivered to your door. We don't have the model out yet for the 2015, but I'm expecting the price will be the same as the cover for the 2014 F-150.

To save everyone some time 699 for 5.5 foot bed in black, 2xx and some more for paint to match.
