I'm just as color blind as you...do both of these trims have the brushed metal appearance?

thank you. FYI, I was using a skinny flathead and it wouldn't get all the way in to the rods/pins. It was getting hung up on a plastic hole. Anybody doing this in the future make sure you use a long skinny object that has a flat end like the hex wrench mentioned above.

Also a big thanks to the OP for all the information! This is by far my favorite interior mod yet!

Yes. Limited trim looks to be a darker gray while the platinum is more silver.

Awesome write up! Anyone think the raptor wheel will work? Looks like the paddle shifters may be a problem...

I don't know how to put the text in between the pictures so please bear with me. I paid $290 for the wheel, and it took about 4 business days to get to my dealer. The leather is niiiiice. The orange-ish stitching doesn't bother me at all, I actually kind of like it.

First thing you need to do is disconnect the positive terminal on your battery. Make sure it is secured and will not touch the battery while you are working. Wait about 10 minutes or so before starting to work on wheel. That way the electronics are fully discharged and it greatly limits the possibility of you setting the airbag off. I'll be honest, I waited about 30 minutes. But in all my years as a firefighter and paramedic, I've never seen an airbag go off after we have cut the power, but it CAN happen.

Once you have waited and maybe poured yourself a tumbler full of gentlemen Jack, locate the two holes on both sides of the steering wheel. This is picture number one and two. Take an allen wrench size 1/8" or something similar. Make sure it is long enough to reach the "rods" holding the airbag in. The video that the link is to explains where the rods are secured. When you push the allen wrench in, you will notice that the airbag moves, once you have depressed the rod enough, gently pull on the airbag to bring it out. Repeat for the other side.

There are three things plugged into the airbag. My dumbass didn't get a picture of the back of the airbag, but I'll do my best to explain it. You will see two plugs in the center of the airbag, and one in the upper left hand corner. The two plugs that are in the center come out by taking a small screwdriver, and popping out the keepers straight out. They are orange in color and are square. Once you pop out the keeper, the plugs come straight out. The third plug is actually plugged into the plug that is attached to the steering wheel. You'll need the same small screwdriver to get this one undone as well. Once that is clear, put the airbag aside.

Picture number 3 is the inside of the wheel. You will see a bolt in the middle and this holds the wheel on. Before you unscrew the bolt, unplug the two plugs above and below it. For lower trim trucks, you may not have two plugs. Once those are undone, take a 15/16 socket and unscrew the bolt. The wheel is off now.

The next set of pictures and the linked video are for the trim. Even with a platinum, I had to swap the trim and buttons. Reason being is that the Limited trim is a different color than the Platinum trim. Watch the video for how to remove the trim. https://youtu.be/8xGJcbXmxOo

My apologies if I wasn't clear on everything, but please leave a question or PM me and I will answer you asap. Glad this worked out, and I'm glad that the upgrade isn't limited to higher trim trucks.

You sell your old wheel/trim piece already?

I did. What's odd is I sold the actual wheel to a guy who ordered a Raptor. Why you ask? He didn't order a heated wheel.

That is quite odd! I have a 300A, so a lariat wheel is a nice upgrade for me. Especially wanted the trim piece. Thanks for the reply.
