Default Silly engineering...

Why do we have reusable gaskets on the pan, but "SCRAP IF DROPPED" drive-shafts?

Probably if you drop the drive shaft it will not be true anymore and cheaper to buy a new DS than try to balance the dropped one

Wouldn't installing a new shaft require balancing once installed? How would a shaft be in balance until installed and removed? I'd think if you make sure you're installing it in the exact orientation it came out, it would remain balanced. At most change the bolts if they require stretching for the installation.

Idk, I was just guessing. Maybe dropping it just makes it tougher to balance than a new one.

I think "dropped" the literal term of hitting the floor.

Not "dropped" the colloquial term for removing a part.
