Default Really Ford? NEWS: Ford to support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on Sync 3

What is the course for us first year adopters? Rip out the MFT and replace it Sync 3?

Ford is making Apple CarPlay and Android Auto available on all 2017 vehicles equipped with Sync 3 in North America, starting with the all-new Ford Escape. Owners of 2016 vehicles equipped with Sync 3 will get an opportunity to upgrade "later in the year," the company said without providing details.

This is great news, but why are you so upset? Ford doesn't owe you anything.

Change happens in every industry. And if you wait to purchase because of what may come in the future, than you will never buy anything, as there always is something coming that will be better, faster, cheaper, smaller/larger on the horizon.

Just enjoy your truck and quit stressing over it. You will be happier.

To be completely fair, this was known before the 2015 F-150 went on sale. That's the biggest reason I didn't buy a '15 and have waited until the '16 MY. I'm just torn now on the entire seat issue and spending > 50k on a luxury truck with seats that don't function as advertised.

I started looking at F150's in March 2015. At the time I understood that one major change from 15 to 16 was Sync3. Looking at feedback here I decided to wait for the 16. Not sure how someone can complain about this. MFT to Sync3 upgrade was readily known. I'm not sure what the 2017's will add but I'm sure I can't complain about it six months from now.

Not sure Ford advertised that the 2 front seats are comfortable.
IMO, they aint

Like sitting on a thinly padded 2x12
Lumbar that projects too far, when fully deflated

Here's the issue as I see it... I waited to order a 2016 for Sync 3... If I remember correctly, Apple Car Play and Android Auto were supposed to function with it (am I wrong here? Wasn't that one of the things being touted with Sync 3? Maybe I imagined it?). Anyway, now they are saying this will be available in 2017, but those with Sync 3 will be able to upgrade to it. What does that mean though? Buy an "Apple Car Play" add on? Or will it simply be an update? I agree that those with a 2015 knew what they were getting into (if they did any research), but what about those of us with/getting a 2016?

Welcome the real world where things are constantly updated!

Yes, it was known and these things happen.

Apple Car Play and Android Auto are modes that the Sync 3 system will work in. They both require a phone (iPhone or android phone respectively) to be plugged into the system over USB and will take on a new look that more or less mirrors the phone system. The Sync 3 system will be able to be updated to support this with a software update later in 2016. This software update should be free, but those details haven't been released. The 2017 model year vehicles will be shipping with this update already included. My guess is once 2017 model year vehicles start to ship, the update for 2016 vehicles will be available shortly there after.

You are correct on not ever waiting for the newest thing to come out but I was never told of this at the dealer. I guess they have their best interests in mind. Hopefully a hack comes out on it where I can get rid of the buggy MFT.

As for the crappy seats, fully agree with you on that. I'm 6'3 and half of my thigh hangs off, but I still love my truck.

Guess I will have to wait for the '18 before I upgrade (I kid)
