Just because you NEED a truck and don't NEED a diamond doesn't mean the dealership should be forced into selling you a truck and only making peanuts while the jeweler should be allowed to make a higher profit margin.

So lets be honest here....how much (in actual $ not % of invoice) do you all think is fair for a dealer to make on a $20000 or a $60000 unit?

Define 'fair'. Each dealer operates their business in a fiscal market environment entirely different from every other dealer. What is an acceptable margin to one dealer would bankrupt another dealer. The question begs uninformed answers.

Bs yourself. We own a dealership and have never gotten kick backs from ford. So.. sorry you are flat wrong. And most of the larger dealerships in our mkt area do indeed generate their money in new cars on the backside not from profit on the sale. My family has been in the business since 1919 so i am sorry i would have a lot more expertise in this. Hyundai and some do stair steps etc but ford has very seldom had such programs. So on this your wrong calling out bs.

You must not be a high volume dealer then. Higher volume dealers absolutely get kickbacks from Ford.

No I'm not. And I'm not talking about "kickbacks". If you don't know what I'm referring to, then Mom & Dad haven't let you in on how things work at "We" dealership. I know how much memo money there is in the average 2015 F150.

If this guy thinks the ONLY money a dealership makes on an employee purchase (AZ plan) is a little bit of dealer holdback, then Mommy & Daddy haven't let him in on the secrets of the family business.

I said we make hold back + a set % from ford. Depending upon the vehicle this amt can range from a couple hundred dollars to a little over a thousand. I explained in an earlier post how this amount was derived. I am in the business u guys are not. I help run the place so mom and daddy dont have to tell me anything. Thanks for the insult. Agree to disagree but no need to throw out insults. I do run a business and understand how it works. Youre simply inaccurate to think that there are thousands and thousands of dollars being made at plan price especially on our lower priced vehicles or more especially when a dealer sells back into hold back. Hold back does not exceed $2000 on a f150 on my lot and i have several over $60,000 trucks on our lot. So forget plan price a sec.. if i sell a truck into holdback, i am making only the amt you agree that i retain of the holback, period. Lets say that is $1000. That reprsents a 2% roi. Not many in the business world would want our exposure for such a small return on their money. Agree to disagree but no need to insult me when i am not stooping that low with you.

Thank you for your input.. sorry but you dont know my business better than i do. Think what you want but why attack people on here. It is fine to disagree but the Mom and daddy reference really... how juvenile are you?
