Default Question - Driver's Side rear shock

Hey guys, something I noticed for the first time while walking past my truck. I sprayed the wheel wells a couple months ago and never noticed it but for some reason it stuck out today.

Only there on one side, driver's side. Can anyone tell me it's significance?

I'm referring to the silver piece. First picture is looking at it from the wheel well in, second shot is from the inside looking out. Thanks.

Edit: Ugh, pictures are backwards, so the one with the "R" is from the inside out. Also, they are rotated 90 degrees counter clockwise. Sorry.

It's just a nut with a flange, it catches the frame when tightening so that no wrench is needed to hold it.

Thanks. Trust me, I told myself that about a dozen times but could not convince myself it was just a flange because there wasn't one on the other side.

A newborn and sleep deprivation will do that to a man.
