Really?! I was under the impression that you pulled out the 4x4 selector and engaged an actual electric locker. I'm a bit bummed.

This is how I understood it.

Then it unlocks on it's own when you regain traction.

jphass, yes, get the e-locker.

I think you just described a limited slip diff and not the e-locker.

I thought you flipped a switch on the e-locker to turn it on. A limited slip will only lock when it senses slipping. (Hence the name).

My bad. You are correct. You can manually lock the rear differential. Guess all those people on the boards who say you should read your owners manual are correct. I've never had a truck that you could manually lock it before. That's kinda nice!!!

Be nicer if you could lock it up in 2WD.

If you're not going to tow much and nothing heavy, go with the 3.55. i have it, combined with the 3.5eb and love it. It's kinda the best of both worlds. And then put it in sport mode and you will have the acceleration you need!!!!!

As far as the e-locker, I say it's a must. Especially if you say you want good traction in bad weather. If you get stuck with one tire on ice, you'll be happy. Much better to have it and not need it. And it's not like it's a bank breaking option. It probably will help with trade in/resale value down the road too.

Hope that helps.

I agree

Maybe not with a certain engine? I have seen two of the XLT 145" 4x4 Screw for sale with the 3.73 gear set and the 5.0 v8 engine.

The E-locker is made for off-roading were on wheel of the axle is off the ground.
On my 2013 Fx4 I used to lock the axles in bad ice and snow thinking that I would get off the line quicker with more traction. The reality is is that the locked axle caused the truck to fish tail and was no quicker than without. The built in traction control keeps the unlocked axle from slipping and makes the truck track straight. The reason that there is not a locker option is because the elec traction control does such a good job.
BTW the E-lock feature automatically disengages after around 20mph. With that said, it is always nice to have one more option!
