Payload without 3.73?

I wish it was possible to get a higher payload without having to step up to the 3.73 rear gears. It seems the 3.73s will kill my hwy mpg, but they are required to get a higher payload.
Wish it was possible to calculate the exact payload I would get without the payload package given my trim (Lariat) with added options.
Also curious how much one really has to stay within the written payload. I doubt 100-200 pounds over is going to be that noticeable on a 5000 pound truck.
I'm asking because I drove a lot of freeway, but need the truck to tow a 6500 gvwr trailer with 3 kids and a wife.

$3 is worth sardines, and 2.17.
Payload lives largely.

Fixed the post, sorry haha. I was trying to say that I wish there was a way to get payload and 3.55 gears with a 2wd. I feel like I have to give up so much (mpgs) just to get a higher payload. Question is...how much does the payload really add and do you feel it's worth the reduced mpgs from the gearing?

Now I'm sorry for making jokes. Hope you're feeling better. Hey I don't do that much hauling so for me mileage would be foremost. Maybe you could get a tuner and " tell"your truck that you have a different gear when you want to haul. I did it with mine when I went to larger tires and wasn't able to adjust for tire size on my year model. Worked very well.

My xlt 2wd payload is almost 1900 pounds by the sticker, I just don't see the heavy payload helping that much, short of the heavier springs, if they were available I might have considered it but not crazy about 6.5 feet bed on supercrew, my 05 that we tow with is about 400 pounds over payload but it's the best truck I've pulled with Ive yet to pull with the 15
