Park to neutral with dead battery
My wifes Cadillac had a dead battery this morning, in the garage. I wanted to put it in neutral so I could push it out of the garage (and could then give it a jump start). It wouldn't go into neutral.
So then I wondered if my F150 was the same way. As far as I could tell, it was. I couldn't figure out how to get my truck into neutral either (without cranking it).
Can this be done, or am I just SOL if I want to put my truck in neutral when the engine isn't running?

I had that situation with a earlier Cadillac SRX and found there was a little tab on the shift console you could pop out and unlock the shifter with a small screwdriver.....you have me thinking and I will see if I can find an answer....just in case!
UPDATE....from P 179 of V3 Owners Manual.....think this is what you need to do....not sure if it works with a dead battery....let me know...will keep looking...
Floor-shifter
1. Apply the parking brake. Turn the
ignition key to the off position, then
remove the key.
2. Remove the rubber mat between the
shifter and cup holder. Using a
screwdriver (or similar tool), carefully
pry up the access panel from the
attachment points and disconnect it
from the console to expose the inside
of the gearshift.

3. Locate the white brake shift interlock
lever on the passenger side of the
shifter assembly.

4. Apply the brake pedal. Using light finger
pressure move the white lever forward
while pulling the gearshift lever out of
the park (P) position and into the
neutral (N) position.
5. Install the access panel and rubber
mat.
6. Apply brake pedal, start your vehicle,
and release the parking brake. See your
authorized dealer as soon as possible
if this procedure is used.

Good question. Similar situation occurred for me a couple months ago with my wife's 2011 Ford Focus. It refused to shift from park to neutral and unless I'm blind, there was NOT a place to "pop a tab out" or a place to stick a key/small screwdriver. I got lucky that a friend had a battery jump pack and we got it out of the garage that way. Otherwise, I would have been screwed as its a 1 car garage and the car was PULLED in... no way to get jumper cables from my truck up to Focus engine.

Check Page 178-179 of the Owners manual V3. The shifter can be manually released. This is pretty much standard for all vehicles that lock the shifter in park.
