If you have the tailgate step you can access the two screws from inside the step pocket when pulled out. It no step then remove the access panel on the inside of the tailgate when lowered. Then simply disconnect the hardware to the handle inside, it's pretty straight forward. You will have to use a little muscle when pulling the black plastic out of the tailgate, pull at the top part of the handle outward.

Just a heads up for anyone looking to paint it white, do not use plastidip. Remove it and get it painted properly. I dipped mine white yesterday and it looked horrible next to the white paint, just took it off this morning. Perhaps a glossifier and better technique would make plastidip acceptable but i doubt it

I painted the handle on the tail gate red to match the truck and the bed rails. Also color matched the fog light housings and side mirrors.

I didn't paint the black part by the license plate because I'm going to remove it and add an led lightbar.
