Lightbulb OEM Ambient Lighting Installed in 2015 XLT, MFT Controlled, Success

The stock XLT truck has all of the computer and control components to allow factory OEM Ambient Lighting exactly and fully functioning, just as found on the Lariat, Platinum, King Ranch. This is not the cheaper add on ambient kit, this is the real deal. It is fully controlled by the 8" MFT screen (APIM) and Body Control Module (BCM). You can select color and intensity of the ambient lighting from the MFT screen. The APIM sends the color settings to the BCM, the BCM is located in passenger foot well right side fuse box, the BCM enables 1 pin for power, and 1 pin for data bus driver's side LEDs, and 1 pin for data bus passenger side LEDs across 3 connectors. The APIM must be programmed to allow ambient menu and screen. The BCM must be programmed to allow 12V Power and data bus lines to activate when doors open, parking lamps, headlights are on (and it's dark). The truck wiring harnesses do not have the wiring or pins in any of the existing connectors. To do this you will have to use service pig tails to insert pins into 3 of the BCM connectors and run your own wiring harness to all the LEDs to be put in the truck. There are exsting places for the footwell LED modules that new ones just snap into, so that was easy. You will have to drill LED holes in the doors and cut a 12-13" x 3/8" hole in your dash if you want the passenger side LED bar in the console above the tray i made this a snug fit and glued with RTV silicone as there was no bracket to clip into (this was easier than i thought it would be). I will probably make a bracket to mount the passenger bar more solidly, although it is perfectly ok as is. I don't know about the doors or center console install, yet, those parts arrive next week.

Research:
Almost all of the how to for this project came directly from the download of the F150 Service Manual from motorcraftservice.com. I paid $21.95 for 3 days access, worth hundreds. Spent whole weekend downloading every page including complete wiring and connector diagrams. This is superb resource to learn anything about the truck.
Spent days poring over diagrams/locations to figure out how to do this.
Forparts.com i found the callout for all the led parts, ordered some locally, some from tasca.
For programming there is a thread here that pointed me to the BCM As built @726-39-01, this will allow Ambient Lighting, but only until the RAP power goes off, once that happens only way to get ambient lighting to work again was to reset the BCM. So, i did some BCM as built comparisons and about 14 writes/resets to find the other important BCM bit for ambient lighting to work all the time.
For the APIM as built ambient setting, i found the ambient enable a long time ago when i was doing the NAV enable project.

Programming APIM as built to allow ambient lighting menu and setup screen:
7D0-01-02 04 09 06 04 80 71 - Less Ambient Lighting
7D0-01-02 04 0B 06 04 80 73 - With Ambient Lighting Note change of one bit from 09 to 0B

Programming BCM as built to allow 12V power and Data bus signals to the LEDs:
726-31-01 00 01 01 12 0C 7F - Less Ambient Lighting
726-31-01 00 02 01 12 0C 80 - With Ambient Lighting Note change of two bits from 1 to 2
726-39-01 11 94 01 00 00 0D - Less Ambient Lighting
726-39-01 11 94 01 01 00 0E - With Ambient Lighting Note change of one bit from 0 to 1
Note: These are my values, yours may be slightly different, it is the bit changes that are important here, you need to determine on your vehicle how that combines with your existing values.
I used forscan to change this as built data, excellent program to do this kind of upgrades.
After programming, you may have to reset the BCM to make the LED module in the BCM start up.

$246.92, so far i have about $315.00 in the project
3 Pin Male/Female Electrical Connectors
22GA Wire 3 Colors (Green,Gray,Black) 50 ft each.
Wiring Loom or Cloth Tape
Electrical Tape
Solder
Note: i am not 100% sure of the door LED part numbers, i don't have them in yet. Still to do: install cup holder and door LED once i get them.

Body Control Module Wiring:
Adding the service pig tails pins to the connectors.
Circuit Color Connector/Pin
CBX07 GN-RD C2280C-4 12V Power from BCM. (Big connector)
VLN73 GY-BN C2280B-13 Bus Data. Footwell Lamp Left Front, Footwell Lamp Right Front, Passenger Instrument Panel, Floor Console Cup Holder
VDN13 BN C2280E-38 Bus Data Front Seat Driver, Front Door Handle - Left, Rear Door Handle - Left, Front Seat Passenger, Front Door Handle - Right, Rear Door Handle - Right
Take the connectors off the BCM, take them apart one at a time including removing the zip ties, insert service pigtail into the connector in the pins indicated, put connector back together, Re-zip tie.
Good ground can be found right by all the fuses.

LED Wiring:
Gray - Wire to data bus (VLN73 or VDN13)
Black - Wire to ground
Green/Red - Wire to BCM Power +12V (CBX07)
I cut the stock wiring connector off the LED wires, and soldered up my own pins/connectors. Just some cheapy 10 pack of 3 pin male/females off ebay. This way all the LEDs are still removable like stock setup.

Disclaimer:
I strongly advise downloading the service manual, this is REALLY awesome to have. It will show how to take out the glove box, center console, door trims, interior trim panels and where all those pesky screws and clips are without breaking stuff.
Do this at your own risk, double check all connections, i take no responsibility for inaccuracies herein.

More to come, it's a matter of when now, not if . 1st three led modules where only about $50 and another $50 in materials, so not a huge investment to see if it works. Ordered the other parts once i had 3 working.

you had to cut a 12" hole in the dash?!

That alone makes me dismiss the mod. Looks cool though, good work.

Yes, there is no slot in XLT dash for the ambient light bar that shines on the passenger console tray, i put it in same place lariat has it. It really wasn't that bad, mad a template, marked it all off with tape, marked the cut smaller than needed, then just took my time with the dremel. Thought it would be worse than it actually was.

I may have to do similar for the cup holder ring, will find out and post more pics on that once i get that part.

I hope you took pictures of it. I cant see how to make that cut, especially with a dremel which is hard to control enough for a precision cut.

Can you post as much as you have? Thanks!

Looks like the right foot well is part number FL3Z-14A411-F instead of FL3Z-14A41-F
