Default Obtaining brand/logo permission

So I'm looking at upgrading my cloth seats to leather through leatherseats.com, and I noticed that they do a lot of really awesome embroidery. Was thinking of getting the new F-150 logo embroidered into the back rest but when I inquired about it they told me Ford is a little picky about the use of their logo and I would need to obtain permission to use it. Was wondering if anyone had gone through this process before and any pointers you may have.

I believe that is the legal, and polite way, to say no. When companies release the use of their protected property, there is usually a detailed agreement, and money exchanges hands.

The local tiny/decal shop near me will make any thing you want. When I asked about copy rights and coping company's designs. There answer was that they are selling me/making money off the material not the design.

Not sure if that's 100% true or not.

The degree to which mfg protect logs varies. BMW Motorad (MC side of BMW) is "very rigid" as an e.g. and doesn't even allow the huge international club to use it in their club logo in any fashion -letters or the "roundel" curcular logo.
Universities make $$$ too on logos and go after those that get into thier business.
I personally wouldn't worry about something they'll never see per your seatcovers.

unless you plan on having these seat covers made on an industrial scale, and sell them here and on ebay, I wouldnt worry about it...
Ford makes enough money that they wont worry about 1 guy copying their logo...

It sounds like the company making the seat covers is saying they will not do this. That is the ethical thing to do, and I cannot blame them.

Copyrights are there for a reason. I see both sides of this argument. As an artist I would be pissed if I had something that was used without permission. A simple letter to headquarters is all you would need. I doubt Ford Motor Company would say no to you.
