Default New Truck Help

Hey guys, I had a 2014 F150 5.0 up until this past weekend when it was t boned and totaled anyway, I'm planning on buying a 2015 F150 XLT Sport 4x4, but can't decide between the 5.0 again, or switching it up to the 3.5L Eco. I had my mind set on a 5.0 again until I drove a new 3.5L. The truck would be my daily driver, don't tow often, but the truck would be receiving full bolt-ons, regardless of engine. My only concern with the Eco is the reliability issues I've heard and the horror stories floating around with them. Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

I have have the XLT Sport FX4 with the 2.7l Ecoboost and I am extremely happy with it. I would recommend driving the 2.7 if you have not already done so, especially if you do not tow that much. Its the fastest of the 3 trucks 0-60 and in the quarter mile I believe by a tenth of a second.

2015 F-150's at equal weight the 3.5L Eco Boost would be faster then the 2.7L Eco Boost. Now a 2015 Super Cab 4X4 2.7L Eco Boost at 4,874 lbs. ran 0-60 5.7 seconds 1/4 mile 14.3@95 mph. 2015 Super Crew 4X4 3.5L Eco Boost at 5,577 lbs. 0-60 5.6 seconds 1/4 mile 14.4@95 mph both tested by Car&Driver. It's funny the 2.7L truck was a tenth slower to 0-60 but a tenth faster in the 1/4 mile?Could be the better low end torque of the 3.5L was quicker 0-60 but lighter weight the 2.7L truck was a tenth quicker 1/4 mile.Although these were different tests on different days.

Plenty of horror stories floating around about anything and everything. The internet has been a boon for agenda driven trolls.

Awesome thanks for the input! Have you modded it at all? Or just left it stock?

Did they test a 5.0 as well?

the aftermarket is pretty new for the 2.7 still. If you really do plan on lots of bolt-ons, the 3.5 is your huckleberry. Plenty of stuff out there for them.

I went with the 5.0 for cost reasons ($2k cheaper than a 3.5 on my truck) but would have gotten the 2.7 if I could have found a race red, scab 302a with it. But the 5.0 was on the lot and had everything I wanted, and they were willing to make the deal so I took it.

Yea my last truck was a 14 5.0 that I was building up with full bolt ons. I had actually just ordered a set of long tubes and an aftermarket midpipe but didn't get the chance to install them before the wreck. I'm definitely more familiar with the 5.0, but I saw a dyno of a en EcoBoost with just an 93 octane tune and it picked up over 100 horsepower and 150 pound feet of torque with just the tune
